Maintenance Packages
If you can get to a server through the Internet, so can the bad guys. All servers need to have babysitters—somebody to make sure they're kept up-to-date, not taken over, and online. Freelock maintenance packages are designed to keep your fresh server installations up-to-date, secure, and available.
We support a limited number or set of applications on each server, depending on its type. Note that we can only provide upgrades and system restores for systems we have installed or completely audited.
All server maintenance plans include:
- Operating system updates
- Monitoring security lists and upgrading covered applications with known vulnerabilities
- 24x7 monitoring for uptime (note that response time is best effort, and not guaranteed on weekends), with option to page you when a server goes offline
- Checking various system logs for signs of intrusion
- General server administration, including adding/removing users, fixing permissions, general admin support
- Restoration of system to the state it was at the previous night's backup (only if we've provided a backup system or full system install)
- Upgrade of operating system when it reaches the end of life (hardware not included, and only if we installed the current operating system)
The set of covered applications varies depending on the type of server. More applications may be covered with a surcharge. Here are some example sets of covered applications, in addition to the core packages provided by the operating system distribution:
- Web server: Up to 6 web applications (individual installations), such as Joomla, SugarCRM, LedgerSMB, LimeSurvey, MediaWiki. Note that these need to be from our list of current monitored applications, which currently contains about 50 popular open source projects. Outgoing mail (note that if you get labeled as a spam source, there's only so much we can do).
- File server: IMAP mailboxes, OpenVPN, up to 4 web applications.
- Email server: Spam filter, Virus filter, incoming mail, outgoing mail, POP/IMAP.
What do you do with covered applications?
- Security-related upgrades
- Getting all data migrated to new versions
- Minor development to fix systems that break as a result of an upgrade
- Restoration of previous versions if there is no fix available
- Share our knowledge in using and working with the application, limited support
- What is not included/costs extra?
- New installations of web applications
- Major version upgrades that are not security-related
- Copies of existing installations to new locations
- Upgrades of commercial software or software outside our covered list
- Custom development required for third-party systems that break as a result of an application upgrade (rolling back to previous working version is included)
